Scholarship Overview

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT) of Japan offers scholarship to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities.

・Full tuition fees 
・Monthly living allowance
・Travel expenses (Round trip flight between your country and Japan)

Specialzed Training college Students  3 years
College of Technology (KOSEN) Students  4 Years
Research Students  2 Years and more

 （1）　Document screening

・Please submit your completed application (hard-copy) to the Embassy of Japan Office.　
*Only the Embassy of Japan accepts the application.
 

・For those who submit documents by the application deadline, we can review the contents and assst with any deficiencies as the time of your visit.
As we may not be able to procide assistance for submissions after this date, we kindly ask that you submit your documents well in advance. 


・To help prevent common mistakes, a sample applciation form is provided below. Please refer to it carefully.

Undergraduate Students (Natural Science) - Japanese, English, Math, Chemistry, and Physics or Biology
Undergraduate Students (Social Science)  - Japanese, English, and Math
Specialized Training Students  - Japanese, English, and Math
College of Technology Students  - Japanese, English, Math, and Chemistry or Physics
Research Students  - Japanese, and English
Teacher Training Students  - Japanese, and English

Program Duration 5 years  (April 2027- March 2032)
(Including 1 year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects.)
 
Eligibility Requirements 1. Nationality

 -  Nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan
- Born on or after April 2nd, 2002
- Completed 12 years schooling (or equivalent) 
- Graduated from a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school.

Specialized Training College Students 2027 

Program Duration

3 years (April 2027 - March 2030)
(Including 1 year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects. )
 

Eligibility Requirements

1. Nationality
2. Age                        
3. Academic background  

                                        

-  Nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan
- Born on or after April 2nd, 2002
- Completed 12 years schooling (or equivalent)
- Graduated from a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school.

Program Duration

4 years (April 2027 - March 2031)
(Including 1 year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects. )
 

Eligibility Requirements

3. Academic background  

                                        

-  Nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan
- Born on or after April 2nd, 2002
- Completed 11 years schooling (or equivalent)
- Graduated from a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school.

Reserch students 2027 

Program Duration

2 years  or more (April/October 2027 - ) 
*The first 6-month period of the scholarship will be devoted to preparatore educatio of Japanese language for those who require. 
**Extension may be possible if you need to proceed to a further degree program.
 

Eligibility Requirements

1. Nationality
2. Age                        
3. Academic background  

                                        

-  Nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan
- Born on or after April 2nd, 1992
- Completed 16 years schooling (or equivalent)

* The Placement Preference Application and Medical certificate can be submitted after the Interview examination.

Teacher training Students 2026 (Application closed) 

This is a non-degree training course, however, a certificate will be provided in completion of required course at the universities in Japan. This program is not designed for those who wish to enter Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree courses.
 

Program Duration

2 years  (October 2026 - March 2028) 
Extension may be possible if you need proceed to a furthur degree program.
 

Eligibility Requirements

1. Nationality
2. Age                        
3. Academic background  

                                        

-  Nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.
- Born on or after April 2nd, 1991
- 5+ years of teaching experience in primary/secondary schools or teacher training institutions
