The Project for the Construction of Samoa Integrated Training Centre for Community Development (September 25, 2025)
2025/9/25

The Government of Japan, through its ongoing Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP), is pleased to hand over a newly constructed training centre to the Samoa Umbrella for Non-Governmental Organizations (SUNGO) at Vaitele tai.
The handover ceremony held earlier today (25 September), was attended by H.E. Mr. SUZUKI Ryotaro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, Hon. Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molio’o, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Finance together with board members, staff and management of SUNGO and other distinguished guests.
The project, valued at up to USD 137,222 (approximately SAT 379,800) aims to serve as a central hub for approximately 230 NGOs and community stakeholders. It is expected to host 50 training sessions annually, each welcoming between 30 to 60 participants. These sessions will focus on critical areas such as governance, civil society development and climate change mitigation.
The new single-storey concrete facility with a floor area of 232.8 square meters, has been designed to provide an appropriate and accessible environment for civic education and community training. It features a large conference room, a small meeting room, an office equipped with essential amenities, kitchen and restroom designed for accessibility and inclusivity.
Japan’s GGP programme is a funding initiative designed to support development projects that directly benefit local communities. It provides small yet flexible assistance with a clear purpose of strengthening the foundations of human security. Since its inception in 1991, the programme has made substantial contributions to Samoa’s development particularly in the areas of education, health, public welfare and environmental protection.
