On Thursday, 30 October 2025, the Embassy of Japan in Samoa organized a WASHOKU (Japanese cuisine) Workshop at the Don Bosco Technical Centre in Alafua, near Apia. The event targeted young Samoans, especially students aspiring to pursue future careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry.
Under the guidance of the Embassy’s official chef, participants practiced basic Japanese cooking techniques using locally available ingredients. They learned how to prepare rice, sashimi, sushi, ONIGIRI (Japanese rice ball), and Japanese clear soup, while also experiencing cultural aspects such as the Japanese custom of the use of chopsticks.
Through this hands-on cooking experience, participants deepened their understanding of Japanese culture and gained inspiration that may contribute to their future involvement in Japanese restaurants and related businesses in Samoa.
