On March 2, 2026, the Embassy of Japan in Samoa held the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship Award Ceremony. This year, two Samoan students have been awarded the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship.
 
  1. Mr. Chang Jonathan Taumata Rodney
    He will commence his doctoral studies in Environmental Systems Science at the University of Tokyo in April 2026. His research focuses on environmental monitoring and policy for climate resilience, aiming to apply Japan’s knowledge and experience to the Pacific Island countries.
 
  1. Ms. Aumua Geraldine Karita
    She will begin her Master’s program at Yokohama National University in October 2026. Her research will examine climate change and youth participation, with the aspiration of contributing to her community in the field of international climate law.
 
It is expected that these scholarship recipients will utilize the knowledge and experience gained in Japan to serve as bridges between Japan and Samoa, further strengthening the friendship between the two countries.
