A New Step in Our Partnership of Hope with SVSG
Recently, we held the signing ceremony for a Grant Contract under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Projects (GGP) with the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG). I wish to express my deepest respect and gratitude to SVSG for their unwavering dedication to protecting and supporting vulnerable individuals, including children and families.
SVSG's "Campus of Hope" is a vital place where children affected by sexual and domestic violence can find refuge, learn, and grow. I had the privilege of visiting this facility previously and deeply felt SVSG's strong commitment to the healthy development of these children. Japan has consistently supported SVSG; for example, our assistance in 2020 helped build "Sakura House," a shelter that has become an irreplaceable base for protecting many lives. In addition to facility development through GGP, Japan also dispatches Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) to SVSG, providing human support in education and care.
This new assistance aims to expand SVSG's school facilities. The new building will include classrooms, a livelihood training room, a library, and necessary toilet facilities. This is a crucial step to meet the increasing demand for SVSG's educational and support services, enabling children and youth to receive a safer and higher quality education and to foster hope for their future.
For Japan, this project is a clear example of our steadfast commitment to "human security." Our long-standing collaborative relationship with SVSG symbolizes this strong bond.
I am confident that once this new facility is completed, it will provide a better and safer environment for more children and young people to learn, grow, and build confidence for their future.
