Handover Ceremony for the Project for the Reconstruction of Safotu Primary School (July 21, 2021)

The community of Safotu and Safotu Primary School in Savai’i witnessed the handover ceremony of their newly reconstructed school building on 21 July 2021 at the school’s compound.
The handover ceremony was well attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Mr. TERASAWA Genichi, cabinet ministers, the School Committee, teachers, parents and students.
The school’s project was largely funded under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) which provided a grant of up to USD 105,019 (approximately WST 272,000).
The new buildings accommodate 10 rooms and staff room and library and toilet space that will ensure the best of resources for children of Safotu community to excel academically.
Japan acknowledges quality education as the key to socio-economic development and hopes to contribute to the improvement of the daily lives of the people of Samoa through its GGP.
Japan’s GGP provides assistance to non-government organizations, primary schools, hospitals and other non-profit associations that implement development projects addressed to basic human needs since 1991.
