The Government of Japan and Solosolo Primary School celebrated the completion of their new school building funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) on 16 November 2018 at the Solosolo Primary School compound.
His Excellency Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa congratulated the completion of the project at a hand over ceremony attended by the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Hon. Tuitama Dr. Leao Talalelei Tuitama, Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Hon. Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio, teachers, parents and students of Solosolo Primary School.
The School Committee received funds of 281,466.90 WST for project implementation in March of this year that enabled the construction of 3 new classrooms and carry out renovation works of the current school building.
Such renovations include replacing of the roof structure with its damaged and rusty roofing, complete reconstruction of the second floor walls, replacing of all windows and its louvres with new ones and other necessary renovation works.
In his speech, the Ambassador stressed out the importance of having access to quality education and emphasized on how his government assists in the prioritised areas such as education.
“Education is extremely important which can widen our life choices and allows us to improve the quality of life. Japan believes that aiming for the development of basic educational facilities to the deserving schools across Samoa is an effective and significant method of assisting people”.
Japan’s GGP is specifically designed to address human needs at grassroots level communities which includes basic education. More than 170 projects have been implemented and successfully completed across Samoa.
This assistance epitomized Japan’s commitment to support efforts by the people and the Government of Samoa to ensure Human Security and continue to enrich the existing warm and close relations of the people and the Government of Japan and the people of Samoa.
