2024/9/18

The Government of Japan, in order to strengthen the maintenance and management system of water supply projects across Samoa and support stable water services, provided five Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD vehicles, valued at USD 201,288 (approximately SAT 587,000), to the Samoa Water Authority and held a handover ceremony on September 18. Representing Japan, His Excellency Ambassador Keisuke Chida attended the ceremony, together with the Honourable Olo Fiti Afoa Vaai, Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, the esteemed Peseta Afua Alati Tiotio, Chairman of the Board of the Samoa Water Authority, as well as other distinguished officials and guests.
The provision of these vehicles is expected to greatly contribute to improving water services in Samoa by eliminating delays in routine inspections and repair work.
Furthermore, Japan is supporting the enhancement of the Samoa Water Authority’s maintenance and management capacity through the JICA technical cooperation project, "Phase 2 of the Samoa Water Authority Maintenance Capacity Building Project in Collaboration with Okinawa." This project is expected to create synergistic effects with the vehicle provision, contributing to the improvement of water services across Samoa and enhancing the living conditions of Samoan citizens.
The Government of Japan is committed to further strengthening the friendly relationship with Samoa and contributing to the country's social and economic development.
