Handover Ceremony for the Project for the Expansion of Itu Asau College (September 6, 2019)

The Government of Japan continues to provide assistance within the education development of the Big Island of Savaii.
Itu Asau College celebrated the opening of their new additional four classrooms through a handover ceremony held on 6 September 2019 at the school’s compound.
First Secretary, Mr. Junsuke Suzuki represented the Government of Japan and congratulated the completion of the project at the ceremony attended by the Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Hon. Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, parents, teachers, and students of Itu Asau College.
The school’s Committee received funds totalling of 105,777 USD (appropriately 263,651.55 WST) under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) in March 2017 which assisted in a project implementation of construction of a building block consisting four classrooms.
The additional classrooms will cater for the increasing number of students and in accordance to the Minimum Service Standards of school environment promulgated by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture.
Japan through its GGP is pleased to assist and be part of the development process to ensure standards of healthy learning environment, sufficient classrooms and safe buildings are well achieved in the education sector.
Japan has been working in partnership with the Government of Samoa since 1991 to further develop its GGP.
