Signing Ceremony of the Grant Contract for the Project for the Expansion and Upgrade of Afega Primary School (September 23, 2019)

The Government of Japan continues to lend its helping hand with reconstruction efforts in community projects at grass-roots level.
The Grant Contract formalising the Government of Japan providing assistance under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) was signed between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki and Acting President of Fagalii Primary School Committee, Fuamatu Jenkins on 18 September 2019 at the Embassy in Apia.
The School Committee received a grant of up to 96,525 USD (approximately 252,000 WST) that will enable the reconstruction of a new school building that will house eight classrooms, a library and staff room.
The current school building has been serving Fagalii community over fifty years and has survived many natural disasters which resulted in need of replacement due to its aged and dilapidated conditions.
Japan provides small and flexible grants to support development projects at the grass-roots level through its GGP that is specifically designed to address basic human needs which includes basic education, water supply, health and sanitary environment.
A total of one hundred and eighty four students are expected to directly benefit from the reconstruction project of Fagalii Primary School and Japan hopes that it will provide a safer and healthier learning environment for the community of Fagalii.
Japan’s assistance through its GGP epitomized Japan’s commitment to support efforts by the People of Samoa to ensure Human Security and to strengthen the warm and close relations between the People of Japan and the People of Samoa.
