Signing Ceremony of the Grant Contract for the Project for the Expansion of Classroom Building and Renovation of Hall for Leififi College (October 23, 2019)

2019/10/24
The Government of Japan provides assistance worth up to 108,880 USD equivalent to 285,000 WST to Leifiifi College through its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki signed the Grant Contract with the President of the School Committee, Rula Su’a-Vaai to formalise Japan’s funding assistance to the School. The Signing Ceremony was hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Apia on 23 October 2019.
The Project aims for reconstruction of a classroom building and renovation of the School Hall that will serve for educational, cultural and social activities.
The School Hall has been serving for such purposes for more than fifty years which no longer efficiently caters specifically for educational activities due to the increasing number of students.
The Government of Japan believes that by providing assistance directly to recipients in Samoa not only ensures effective use of the grant, but also achieves Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy objective of promoting development at the grass-roots level.
Japan acknowledges basic necessities such as provision for education, good health care and water facilities is the key to socio-economic development and hopes to contribute to the improvement of the daily lives of the people of Samoa through its GGP.
It is hoped that upon completion of the Project it will be able to provide a much efficient space for the increasing roll of the school and to serve multi purposes for both the school and nearby communities.
