Handover Ceremony for the Project for the Construction of Hall for Faleata College (February 25, 2020)

The Government of Japan and Faleata College celebrated the completion of their new multipurpose hall funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) up to 206,315 USD (approximately 525,000 WST).
H.E.Mr. TERASAWA Genichi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, congratulated the completion of the project through a handover ceremony held on 25 February 2020 at the school’s compound.
Among those attended were the Prime Minister, Hon. Tuilaepa Fatialofa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi, Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Hon. Solamalemalo Loau Keneti Sio, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, parents, principal and staff as well as students.
The School Committee sought Japan’s GGP assistance in 2018 realizing the school was in much need of a hall and necessary to accommodate for school activities and functions such as assemblies, cultural programs, prizegivings etc.
Japan’s GGP is pleased to assist and be part of the development process of Faleata College for which education is considered as one of the most important sectors of the socio-economic sectors of Samoa.
Thus, the Government of Japan has decided to make every effort to prioritise the development of basic education by improving and providing access to equal opportunities across Samoa.
Japan’s GGP was introduced in 1991 to respond to various development needs at grass-roots level in developing countries, and to date have granted over 190 projects in different sectors throughout Samoa.
The assistance epitomise Japan’s commitments to support the efforts by the Government of Samoa to achieve its national strategy for the development of Samoa and to strengthen the warmly friendship between Japan and Samoa.
