Temporary Visitor's Visa

A Temporary Visitor's Visa is for a stay of up to 90 days in Japan for the purposes of tourism, visiting friends/relatives, business, attending a conference and/or other unpaid activities. Paid or profit-making activities are prohibited on this visa. In some cases, it may be possible for nationals of India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Viet Nam to apply for a multiple-entry visa for any of the purposes listed below. Required Documentation

TOURISM/SIGHTSEEING
・ Valid passport with sufficient space for the visa
Visa application form with one recent passport sized photo (45x35mm) affixed by glue
・ Valid Samoan visa (excluding visitor visa if you do not hold a Samoan passport
・ A copy of e-tickets or flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
* We do not require the purchase of tickets but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may be unusable due to delay or denial of a visa.
・ Proposed itinerary (activity schedule) in Japan, including accommodation (use prescribed form)
・ Bank statement (original/certified)
・ Evidence of your hotel bookings
・ Letter or certificate from your employer/school showing evidence of your current employment/enrolment (certified copy or original)
・ In the case of dependents travelling with legal spouse/parent, please provide proof of relationship e.g. copy of marriage certificate or birth certificate.
* Visa fee is payable (if applicalbe) when visa is issued. Payment must be by cash when passport is collected.
* If you wish to nominate another person to collect your passport on your behalf, please complete the official authorisation form with your handwritten signature. Your nominated person must provide this authorisation form, his/her official ID, and pay the visa fee (if applicable) in cash at the time of collection.


VISITING FRIENDS/RELATIVES
・ Valid passport with sufficient space for the visa
・ Visa application form with one recent passport sized photo (45x35mm) affixed by glue
・ Valid Samoan visa (excluding visitor visa) if you do not hold a Samoan passport
・ A copy of e-tickets or flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
* We do not require the purchase of tickets but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may be unusable due to delay or denial of a visa.
・ Proposed itinerary (activity schedule) in Japan, including accommodation (use prescribed form)
・ Bank statement (original/certified)
・ Original letter from your employer/school showing evidence of your current employment/enrolment
・ Invitation letter (English/Japanese) from friends/relatives stating length of stay and addresses of friends/relatives
・ Proof of residence in Japan:
   If the inviter is a Japanese national:
   - Copy of residential certificate or copy of driver’s licence 
   If the inviter is a non-Japanese national: 
   - Passport (copy)
   - Japanese visa (copy)
   - Residential certificate (copy)
・ If your friend/relative will financially support your trip to Japan, he/she must also provide an original letter of guarantee (English/Japanese) and one of the following:
   - Certificate of tax payment
   - Copy of tax return
   - Bank statement (original/certified)
   - Certificate of income
* Visa fee is payable when visa is issued. Payment must be by cash when passport is collected.
* If you wish to nominate another person to collect your passport on your behalf, please complete the official authorisation form with your handwritten signature. Your nominated person must provide this authorisation form, his/her official ID, and pay the visa fee (if applicable) in cash at the time of collection.


BUSINESS
・ Valid passport with sufficient space for the visa
・ Visa application form with one recent passport sized photo (45x35mm) affixed by glue
・ Valid Samoan visa (excluding visitor visa) if you do not hold a Samoan passport
・ A copy of e-tickets or flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
* We do not require the purchase of tickets but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may be unusable due to delay or denial of a visa.
・ Proposed itinerary (activity schedule) in Japan, including accommodation (use prescribed form)
・ Bank statement (original/certified)
・ An original letter on company letterhead which must include the applicant’s position, nature of the business trip, length of stay and the company’s financial responsibility for expenses incurred on the trip.
・ A letter of invitation from the company in Japan, which can be sent, faxed, or scanned (PDF copy of scan with company letterhead and signature)
・ If your business contacts in Japan will bear the cost of your travel and stay in Japan, please provide the following:
   - Letter of guarantee
   - Company register
   - Certificates of employment
* Visa fee is payable (if applicable) when visa is issued. Payment must be by cash when passport is collected.
* If you wish to nominate another person to collect your passport on your behalf, please complete the official authorisation form with your handwritten signature. Your nominated person must provide this authorisation form, his/her official ID, and pay the visa fee (if applicable) in cash at the time of collection.


ACADEMIC CONFERENCE
・ Valid passport with sufficient space for the visa
・ Visa application form with one recent passport sized photo (45x35mm) affixed by glue
・ A copy of e-tickets or flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
* We do not require the purchase of tickets but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may be unusable due to delay or denial of a visa.
・ Proposed itinerary (activity and conference schedule) in Japan, including accommodation (use prescribed form)
・ Bank statement (original/certified)
Original letter from your home institution stating your current position/enrolment and outline of the conference
・ Original letter of Invitation from Japan or a paid registration form, which can be sent, faxed or scanned (PDF copy of scan with letterhead and signature may also be accepted.)
   One of the above letters must also include whether travel costs will be covered by the sending/receiving institution.
* Visa fee is payable (if applicable) when visa is issued. Payment must be by cash when passport is collected.
* If you wish to nominate another person to collect your passport on your behalf, please complete the official authorisation form with your handwritten signature. Your nominated person must provide this authorisation form, his/her official ID, and pay the visa fee (if applicable) in cash at the time of collection.


EXCHANGE /TRAINING PROGRAMME INVITED BY A JAPANESE ORGANISATION
・ Valid passport with sufficient space for the visa
・ Visa application form with one recent passport sized photo (45x35mm) affixed by glue
・ Valid Samoan visa (excluding visitor visa) if you do not hold a Samoan passport
・ A copy of e-tickets or flight details (full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline)
* We do not require the purchase of tickets but we do require a confirmed reservation. We are not responsible for tickets which may be unusable due to delay or denial of a visa.
・ Proposed itinerary (activity schedule) in Japan, including accommodation
・ Letter from your school stating the reason for visit to Japan, relevant dates and itinerary in Japan (Itinerary may be prepared by your sister school in Japan)
・ If the visit is part of a school exchange, please attach a copy of the school agreement and invitation letter from Japan.
* Visa fee is payable (if applicable) when visa is issued. Payment must be by cash when passport is collected.
* If you wish to nominate another person to collect your passport on your behalf, please complete the official authorisation form with your handwritten signature. Your nominated person must provide this authorisation form, his/her official ID, and pay the visa fee (if applicable) in cash at the time of collection.


NOTE:
Additional documentation may be required.
No documents other than your passport and Certificate of Eligibility will be returned.
Temporary visitor visas will take a minimum of five working days to be processed. There is no urgent visa service.
Even with possession with a visa, final permission to enter Japan remains at the discretion of the immigration authorities.
Visas are only valid from three months from date of issue, so applications open from three months before your intended date of arrival.
